I can't believe I have a whole other week to do anything I want to. I'm practically out of things I said I wanted to get done while on vacation, so it really does amount to pretty much anything I want to do. That hasn't happened in something like two years.
Today I finally oiled the sewing machine. Tomorrow I'll thread it and run it. I have a small logistical puzzle regarding where I can set it up, because this place does suffer from a scarcity of outlets. I'll figure it out sometime when I don't have a headache.
The headache is either a consequence of the weather, which thinks it might thunder, or a consequence of not having any coffee yesterday. I suspect some of each with an emphasis on the coffee, which means I should be more careful about caffeine again. I can't get away with nothin' lately, eating-wise or caffeine-wise, but I haven't accepted that yet. I still keep trying to go without coffee, or eat things I know I can't quite afford, and then I end up getting a headache or gaining two pounds in a week.
Speaking of eating, yesterday I tried to make a cherry crostata. Unfortunately I made the crust a bit too dry and it wouldn't roll out gracefully. By the time I got it more or less around the cherries, it had a mess of holes in it and turned into a Cherry Disaster, by which I mean it leaked. A lot. Fairly tasty, but majorly ugly. And majorly expensive according to Weight Watchers; the family pie crust recipe is nothing but flour, Crisco and salt and just barely enough water to hold it together. But flour and Crisco are expensive, so one serving of Cherry Disaster is 11 points and I've got seven of them to get through (I had one yesterday). Considering I get 32 points per day, Cherry Disaster is extremely expensive. I think I won't do that again. I suspect I'm going to have the same problem with the oxtail I bought yesterday when I get around to stewing it, but that's a problem for cooler weather. Until then, I have an oxtail in the freezer.
