This winter hasn't really been anything to complain about, but the weather today is the weather I've been waiting for. I have to run an errand after work today and I almost don't care if I get there too late and the place is closed. Just being outdoors is good; there's vitamin D and fresh air and all that stuff I wait all winter for.

I'm reading "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks", and cringing at the scientific methods used in the 1950s. They really were making a lot of it up as they went along. It's an interesting book for a nonscientist, anyway. (I had to laugh at the 1966 NEJM article that says there's so much NIH grant money available for scientific research that ethics can't keep up. These days it's all ethics and no money.)

The Hairy Beasts reacted to the first sustained open windows of the spring by being complete and utter dingbats, as usual. Given two cats and three open windows, there was always one unoccupied window, and of course whichever window was unoccupied might have something of vital interest going on outside it at any moment. There was a lot of stampeding up and down the hall and kicking the other cat off whichever windowsill was of interest at that instant. They do both fit in the same window, but it's the principle of the thing, apparently. Silly beasts.

Peridex doesn't taste any better this week than it did last week, but hopefully after Saturday I'll be done with it. I'm looking forward to that.
