Well, that sucked. I spent from 8:30 this morning to 3:30 this afternoon fixing one stupid mistake I made two weeks ago.

What happened was, I read an email wrong and thought that somebody who said he wasn't coming to the February P&R meeting actually was coming. Which means we assigned him five cases to review, and then we had to reassign them when he said "Wait a minute, I said I WASN'T coming." Everybody at that meeting has between five and six cases to review, and because of our constraints (you can't review somebody in the same department, or at the same hospital, as you are), somebody would have ended up with seven reviews. That's way too much work for one committee member.

Fortunately, since 25 of the 57 cases going to P&R in February are from the same department, we had split them across both meetings (usually we alternate departments between the AM and PM meetings). So we transferred three reviews from that department to the other meeting, and reassigned the remaining two reviews. But that meant I had to re-create the agendas for both meetings, and re-create the electronic votesheet for one of the two meetings (because somebody had used it, and once somebody uses it, you can't edit it; you have to start over), and swap the permissions on the web site for the three transferred cases to the other meeting, and re-number everything, and send out the new agendas to the committees, and apologize profusely, and hope I got it right this time.

Now I have to figure out how not to do that next time. I think the answer is "stick all the replies to the attendance email in a folder and log them all at the same time a week after the email goes out". My favorite answer would be "stop having two meetings every month, so we don't have 50 committee members to keep track of", but that falls under Keep Dreaming, so I have to make it work.

I'm still annoyed that I spent large parts of the winter break having the Insidious Grue, because I needed a rest and that wasn't it. It's making me want to take off for ten days in April and go to London or Paris or both. I wonder if I can afford that?
