rantlets

And I thought I had sore shoulders yesterday...I just got through with a modeling session that consisted of one two-hour pose, with a five-minute break at the end of the first hour. OW, dammit!

My parents have finally gotten a cable modem, and are having all kinds of fun trying to figure out how to get their old settings, address books, etc. transferred. Me, I'd be happier if they would use a mail program other than Outlook Express, but I'm not getting into that with them. I have enough fun with my own Windows experiences, thanks. The graduate lab computers are all running XP, and they all seem to have the same problem whereby if I want a circumflex (^), apostrophe or closed quotation marks, they don't show up until the next keystroke. Not the next space, the next keystroke. So if I type anything in quotation marks into Google, it doesn't come up with closed quotation marks until I type them twice, and then it gives me two sets. Apostrophes are even worse; when I want an apostrophe, I have to type it twice, or otherwise I get either an accent mark or nothing, depending on the program. Word gives me nothing, and MultiTerm gives me erroneous accent marks.

If I see any more sorority girls running around with flowers, or teddy bears, or other such trappings of the so-called holiday tomorrow, I'm going to commit murder. If Valentine's Day is a Hallmark holiday, Presidents' Day is an auto-industry holiday.

I need new jeans because two of my three pairs are falling apart, new sneakers because mine make my feet hurt just walking up to get the mail, and an appointment to get my teeth cleaned because I'm at least six or eight months overdue for one. However, for any of these things to happen, I need more money. I like not having to worry about where my rent is coming from, and I don't want to have to start worrying again due to spending money on clothes and such. (Cue rant about how I can't live without vegetables, and how buying vegetables is putting me at least $10 per week over my food budget these days.)

All right, enough ranting. Off to compose a message to my French Theater prof about how I'm not a teacher-in-training, I'm a translator-in-training, and I want to write my major paper for the semester about translation of plays.
