The leech did not, in fact, show up for the coffee hour. Most of the rest of the world did, though, and we had crepes AND beignets AND a gateau du roi. Next week I think I'll bring fruit if I can find any decent fruit around here. Hee hee.

My ear is blocked up again, which made the coffee hour somewhat difficult because I couldn't hear half of what people said to me. I had fun anyway, though, and apparently I absolutely must see House of Flying Daggers, in a theater if at all possible.

Tomorrow is my last day of tutoring, and my teaching classmates are dismayed about that. I, on the other hand, am not. I wouldn't mind having my non-academic day be Wednesday. It's easier to do laundry on weekday afternoons. Last time I did laundry on a weekend, I came in right behind what seemed like an entire sorority. It actually went fairly well; I only had to wait 15 minutes for a dryer, but being in a confined space with several people whose every other word is "like" drives me crazy. After half an hour of listening to a woman do that on the T once, I very nearly offered her $10 if she could go for five minutes without saying "like" at all.

Right, new subject. Having recently re-read Murder Must Advertise by Dorothy Sayers, it occurred to me that there are a fair number of parallels between Pym's and a translator's brain. I'm still working on that idea.

Hungry. Time for dinner.
