Hooray! New apartment! With space! and closets! and light! and air! and, as of half an hour ago, internet access.

Moving was moving; a longer post about that will be forthcoming. Enormous gratitude to whuffle, halleyscomet, happyfunpaul, and quezz, and my parents.

I spent yesterday unpacking my bedroom and my kitchen, and cleaning things as I unpacked. I'm getting away without rent for August because the place needs cleaning, so I'm cleaning it. Yesterday involved one trip to the grocery store for things like light bulbs and toilet brushes and a larger broom, and one trip to the hardware store for tension rods and shelf space not in the pantry. Neither errand took longer than an hour and a half to get to, get done and get back from. That was a shock.

Today's list, now that the RCN guy has been and gone, involves fabric shopping for door curtains, hardware store again for Metro shelf clips, getting the gas turned on for the stove (did that, since I found the number online, since I'm online again), and trying to hunt up more bookshelves and counter space.

Due to its previous life as a dining room, my bedroom has two entry doors. One goes into the hallway and the other goes into the kitchen. I really want a curtain on the kitchen door, to the point where I'm willing to hand-sew it. I think it's fabric-shopping time, after I hunt up some lunch.

I'm not doing anything tonight and I know where the sewing machines are. So long as you bring thread (cuz I can't promise that I know where that is) you could come use my machine any time this week to make up your door curtains. I'd suggest that if you want to permanently curtain off either of the doorways, you should put a tension rod at the top AND bottom of the curtain then hang a few picture frames from the tension rod on the hallway side to make it obvious that this-is-no-longer-a-door.

Already thought of the tension-rod-on-both-ends thing. The rods are up, but there's nothing between them. I fix, though, as soon as I figure out what weight of fabric I want.

I was thinking of maybe combining picking those up with borrowing the sewing machine sometime soonish. I don't have any fabric yet because I forgot where the Cambridge Quilt Store was, so went hiking from Harvard Square to Alewife, all over hell's half acre at Alewife, back to Harvard Square and then back to Central Square, to the tune of five and a half miles. Tomorrow, armed with actual directions, I'll go find the place and buy fabric.

Darn, I wish I'd known you needed lightbulbs, I have a bag full! Ah well. Anyone ELSE need lightbulbs?

I actually only needed one, but while I was out anyway I bought a mess of those compact fluorescent ones to replace some of the regular ones.
