After it's been hot and ridiculously humid for a couple of days, watching the Hairy Beasts recover is like watching a thirsty plant recover when you water it. First they start sitting around with their feet tucked in, and eventually Lily starts a wrestling match, and sooner or later they're tearing at top speed up and down the hall and sleeping on anything that isn't a hard surface, and generally acting like they feel a lot better.
Leo the Late Bloomer likes the bedroom window, but he could be feeling better. He seems to have fungus gnats, which I apparently can get rid of with cinnamon, of all things. Haven't tried it yet, for want of remembering to. Best guess is the fungus was in the potting soil. If I can get rid of the gnats, hopefully he'll stop having his largest leaves shrivel up and fall off. He's got a lot of smaller leaves, at least, so he aten't dead.
Fungus gnats aside, the hot and ridiculously humid weather was good for a lot of other unwanted growth. I had to throw out two pounds of fuzzy cherries and a pound of fuzzy blueberries (phoo) and didn't discover until a bit too late that there was yeast growing on the maple syrup (ick). It would probably have been excellent weather for sourdough starter, if I'd had any.
With all the information you can find on the internet these days, you'd think I would be able to find out what size lug belt a Morse 600 sewing machine requires. I didn't know lug belts came in so many sizes. Granted, I'm sort of taking it on faith that a lug belt is what's required, because I haven't actually seen the machine itself yet. It's my birthday present. Mom found it at the thrift shop in the spring. It's a circa 1957 cast iron workhorse, which is exactly what I wanted, and Mom says that once it has a new belt I could probably sew circus tents with it if I want to. Apparently it came with a box of miscellaneous attachments besides, so what I should probably do once the machine and I are in the same place is buy a yard of muslin and start messing around with it.
Speaking of messing around, I should start making a list of stuff I could take care of while on vacation that I can't usually be bothered to take care of.
- Purge and rearrange the pantry
- Do something with the contents of the done-with-it book box
- Putty over screw holes and reattach radiator covers in the bedroom and living room
- Figure out what's in the freezer vs what should be in the freezer and make it so
- Put the giraffe picture on a flash drive, take it somewhere and get it printed
- Wash the window curtain that lives in the shower (not the shower curtain; that's different)
That'll do to begin with.

what is
Re: what is
They look like fruit flies, only smaller, and they hang around in the plant pot instead of getting everywhere.
