It's infuriating that I can talk to myself in French, and I can talk to other people in French if I'm slightly buzzed, but I can't do it sober and in company at the same time. All the French I ever learned goes straight out of my head.

In case you needed proof that my brain has holes in it, why can I remember the word for fireworks (feux d'artifice) when I can't remember the word for ice cream, which I know I learned at least once?

Weirdness.

It's exactly what I wanted. For some reason Beethoven in general is good music to translate to. Unfortunately the only other Beethoven I have is the 5th symphony. I need to replace my CD of the 9th, which seems to skip every 30 seconds or so.

because ice cream is tasty. :)

if it helps, my brother, before he was fluent in Spanish, once went on a trip with his Spanish teacher to Spain, got tipsy and spoke fluent Spanish while under the influence.

Whiche prompted a friend of mine to exclaim, "That's it! We all get drunk and then we can speak all the languages of the world!"

I did have a friend in college who did the exact same thing with German and Spanish. Weird!
