dchenesI got my taxes done while nobody showed up for tutoring, and then somebody showed up. I swear he's from outer space or something. In addition to having a screw loose, he's already given up on French (and admits it). I think he wants an easy solution for which he doesn't have to do any work. Well, there isn't an easy solution, and I'm not doing the work for him, dammit. That's not what I'm there for. (He says French is keeping him out of law school. Judging by the tangents he went off on and the arguments he was trying to use to get the mythical One True Solution out of me, he's either going to be a great lawyer or nobody will want anything to do with him.)
So anyway, he left after about half an hour, and I got the rough draft of the second article for my case study done. Hooray for gene therapy and its immensely long names for biological compounds. Finding parallel texts for this one is going to be fun, because I don't understand it. Not understanding what you're translating is actually fairly common, and it's what parallel and background texts are for. It's a little like typing something for somebody else without reading it. Since I got inspired yesterday and finished the draft of the other article and started a parallel text search for it, I'm in decent shape. I wish the draft versions were in better shape, but that's my own fault.
After I got that done, it had been about two hours, and I was getting bored. Three other people showed up to be tutored; one who wanted me to tell him he knew the imperfect tense well enough to take a test tomorrow (he does), one woman who is either Chinese or Korean and wanted help pronouncing things, and one woman who had the old tutoring schedule that said I was there until 5:00 (I stayed until then anyway, because she showed up at 4:00) and wanted me to tell her what was wrong with a short composition she had written.
I hope I was at least moderately helpful.
I'm more than moderately hungry.
