Dec. 2nd, 2002

I had a very nice Thanksgiving weekend. I got out of work an hour and a half early on Wednesday, which gave me time to go home and do a little laundry and pack things. I went home on Thursday morning, since my cousin/housemate who was doing the driving didn't want to drive on Wednesday night, and I can't argue with that.

Thursday morning we got to my parents' at about 10:30 and milled around in the kitchen for a while. We sat down to eat at about 1:00. There were 11 of us and a 15-pound turkey, along with all the other stuff we always have at Thanksgiving: stuffing and mashed potatoes and turnips and green beans and salad and three kinds of cranberry sauce and farci (which is a French Canadian dish that has ground pork and hamburger and mashed potatoes and spices in it) and two kinds of gravy. After we eat dinner, we always go for a walk before dessert. For the first time in recent memory, it was too cold for anybody to be out sailing when we walked past the water. Dessert was apricot pie, blueberry pie, Greek walnut pie, raspberry cheesecake, apple cobbler and ice cream.

On Friday I did a whole lot of not much, punctuated in the middle by a turkey sandwich (of course.)

On Saturday, I went wandering through downtown Mystic and did a smidgen of shopping. I wound up with a new sweater from the store my mom works in. It wasn't the sweater I really wanted, but the one I really wanted was sold as a set with a skirt that didn't fit me, and even if it did fit me I would never have worn it. Oh well.

On Saturday afternoon/evening I went to see some very old family friends. Every time I go to my parents', I go see these friends if they're in town. They tend to spend the winter sailing around in the Bahamas, but they're usually around for Thanksgiving and Christmas. They mostly wanted to talk to my sister, I think, but they were happy to see me too.

Yesterday my sister went off to the airport in Groton (which has a total of 2 gates, and the only place you can go from there is Philadelphia), and then I met up with my housemate and we came back to Boston, at which point I decided I'd had quite enough of being cold, thank you, so when the rest of the household went grocery shopping, I stayed home and did dishes, and when they all got back we had dinner and watched Wallace & Gromit.

So, here we are at Monday, and I still have a mess of shopping to get done, but at least I have a requests and ideas list for presents. I should write it down instead of carrying it around in my head, though. Hmm.
