Happy New Year!
Jan. 2nd, 2003 02:44 pmI haven't really made any resolutions this year, unless you count the one I made in October to file things at work the minute I got them.
I've been thinking about all the "Person/People of the Year" awards, and I've come to the conclusion that they don't really mean anything, because there are all sorts of people in the world and it's merely a matter of some editor's taste who gets it. Therefore, I'd like to recognize the following people:
Anybody who finally did something they'd wanted to do all their life in the last year
Anybody who did something that scared them to even think about
Anybody who made somebody else's day
Anybody who is in less debt than they were at the beginning of last year
Anybody who has one more friend now than they did last December
In short, the people who go through the year being who they are and doing what they do, and making the world a little better because of it. The people who stand on their own feet and pay their own bills and get through things they never thought they could get through. The people who aren't politicians or millionaires or world leaders or any of that stuff, but who make a difference to somebody.
Reading that back, it sounds pompous, but I want to say it anyway. Happy New Year, everybody.
