It's raining. This is the first time it's been 70 and raining, and it's raining during the day, and I'm enjoying it immensely. There's something about the smell of warm pavement being rained on that conjures up instant summer. I've been waiting for this since yesterday, when it was humid all day and the clouds were building up but weren't quite there yet. In Noank, and to some extent in Boston, I can smell a thunderstorm coming, but out here I can't.

I know that I get frantic when thunderstorms are coming but haven't gotten here yet, but I'd really like to know why. It gets just a bit inconvenient to be unable to sit still and concentrate on anything until the storm finally arrives. Once it does, it's like the entire weight of the atmosphere lifts off me. It only seems to work for thunderstorms, though; I don't get frantic about snow.

Why, I wonder, is my brain wired that way?

I'm the same way about storms.
Snowstorms even sometimes.
