Yesterday, in talking to my parents, I discovered that my cousin Peter has a new daughter (yay!) and that my 87-year-old grandfather (my father's father) is in the hospital with congestive heart failure. He might die tomorrow, or he might die next year, nobody knows. Sigh.
The rest of the weekend has been nice, though. My sister did in fact come down here, and we went to the West Side Market yesterday (after getting about four kinds of lost in the process). Anyway, once there, we bought a duck and some apricots and some salad greens and some other incidental stuff, came home again (not getting lost at all) and proceeded to make pan-roasted duck breast with apricots, and the beginnings of duck soup. The pan-roasting process filled up my entire apartment with smoke, and I had to take the smoke alarm off the wall entirely in order to make it shut up. We ended up eating dinner on the doorstep while airing the place out.
On Friday we went to Walmart and obtained a coffee grinder (without which my sister would have had no coffee on Saturday morning, which would have been a Bad Thing), and an air mattress. The air mattress takes up most of my living room floor and took the two of us most of an hour to pump up with a bicycle pump. It does make an adequate guest bed, though, and even though the package said it was a queen-size mattress, it's a double, so my sheets fit it.
Today I have to finish dealing with the duck soup and collect laundry to do tomorrow.
