When I got home last night, my upstairs neighbors were out back having a cookout with several friends. I think at least two of said friends were from somewhere in the Caribbean that speaks French, because what I was hearing definitely wasn't English and I think most of it ended in "quoi?" I don't think it was African French, because I've heard African French and it didn't sound like that. Interesting.

Today's agenda involves a bit of cooking and a lot of cleaning. Fortunately most of the cooking is of the "chop things up and leave them to sit overnight" sort, although I am going to have to turn on the oven eventually.

I should write out the outline of the paper I want to write, so at least I'll know if it's going to be long enough. I still haven't given up on that idea; it's just that I keep putting it off and doing other things. Funny how that works.

Well, that was fun! I now know what direction rain gets blown in from around here. The good news is, it doesn't come in through the bedroom windows (wet featherbed = Not Fun). The bad news is, I've got to find somewhere else to put my dictionaries. It really was fun, though; it got darker and darker and darker and all of a sudden it was white outside because there was so much water coming down. And I got soaked trying to shut the windows, because it's been humid and the only way to get them to shut is to hang all my weight on the top of the window so the paint stops sticking to itself. I considered going out on the fire escape and getting thoroughly soaked all over, but I didn't do it. (I probably should've; it would've been the quick way to wash the kitchen floor if I'd left the door open.)
