My landlord turned the heat on last night, which meant that for the first time since it was hot out, I fell asleep without having to wait for my feet to warm up. Tonight I absolutely have to argue with the storm windows.

Unfortunately there was no hot water again this morning, so the shower started out lukewarm and progressed to cold so fast I could only take two minutes to wash everything but my hair. I think it's because the upstairs neighbors got there first, although I swear they've got their own water heater. Next time I do laundry, I'll investigate that. Anyway, mornings like this are why the gods invented hot coffee and Smartwool socks.

I was considering, if I'm really unemployed on Thursday, going down to CT to see my parents' new kitchen (which I haven't seen since it was gutted, last Christmas) and visit with the family friend who's staying with them next week. In light of the credit card bill I just got, though, I don't think I can afford it.

On the up side, I finally found suction cup hooks and put up my prisms. I knew that the kind of suction cup hooks I wanted had to exist, but it took me four hardware stores to find them. And now that the sun has been out for two days in a row, I'm a much happier camper.

Every so often, a fragment of poetry I've read will take over my brain for a while. For the last two weeks, it's been "The Charm of the Bisara", which is a chapter heading from Plain Tales from the Hills by Rudyard Kipling.

Little Blind Fsh, thou art marvellous wise,
Little Blind Fish, who put out thy eyes?
Open thy ears while I whisper my wish -
Bring me a lover, thou Little Blind Fish.

It's not the subject, and it's not the imagery; it's the language. Something about the way the words go together, and damned if I know what it is, won't leave my brain alone.

For a while I kept a collection of poems that grabbed me like that. At least then when I got something stuck in my head, I knew where I could go look it up. I should start that again, if I can find the collection I already had.
