This morning I got the hiccups. Eventually they went away, and then they came back again, and then they went away again, and now they're back with a vengeance. I can't fall asleep with hiccups, and these are practically indestructible. Holding my breath never works, drinking something hasn't worked, and I don't have a quart of ice cream (according to an episode of The Great Gildersleeve, the best cure for hiccups is "eat a quart of ice cream, fast"), nor do I have half a teaspoon of sand (you're supposed to swallow it, dry).

At least it's Saturday night, as opposed to Sunday night, because waiting out the hiccups before I go to sleep is not something I want to do the night before I have to get up and go to work. (And I have to remember, I'm supposed to be at work at 8:30 on Monday to set up for a meeting at 9:00 and another one at 10:00.)

*hic* ARGH!

There should be a subcategory of "never go food shopping when you're hungry". My problem lately is "never go food shopping when you have enough ideas for about three weeks' worth of meals". I end up buying food for about three weeks' worth of meals, because most of the time I'm convinced I'll forget the idea in a week unless the ingredients for it are staring at me every time I open the fridge. (And then I forget anyway, and sometime a month later I encounter something in the fridge that's verging on sentient, and then I kick myself.)

So now I've got ingredients for quiche, and ingredients for tofu stirfry, and ingredients for the vinegar pork recipe [livejournal.com profile] sierciamentioned, and I still have pork chops from last week that I've got to do something with (I'd try the vinegar pork with those since they're loin chops, but I want to follow the recipe as written first). I wish I could break myself of this particular habit.

Oh well, at least I also got decent apples, and cereal bars to take to work, and I got a fair bit of exercise because I walked to Brighton from Roxbury and then back from Brighton to Coolidge Corner. Hopefully the exercise makes up for the neutron cake I ate yesterday (it was advertised as "dense chocolate cake" and it certainly was.)
