Silly me, I thought Chinese New Year was last weekend, and was rather shocked at the amount of firecrackers and lion dances and flying lettuce and oranges I encountered in Chinatown this afternoon. (The first time a firecracker goes off right in your ear, it's a bit of a shock.) The next time I want silk with Chinese patterns on it, I know exactly where I'm going to get it from.

That's the last time I take two shopping bags, a purse and a trombone on a bus in the middle of a weekend afternoon. There's absolutely no way to not be inconvenient.

I did finally manage to get home, though, and figured out how the trombone goes together (and comes apart; I didn't know there was a catch that keeps the slide from sliding) and will be happily ensconced in the second round of cooking as soon as I figure out what I'm going to put the soup in so as to free up the saucepan. (Given cheddar that really needs to be used before it gets furry, and broccoli from yesterday, of course you make broccoli cheese soup with it, right? Especially if you start with enough garlic to keep you from having vampire problems for the foreseeable future, hee hee.) I could solve this problem if I bought another saucepan, but I think I'll hold out for replacing both saucepans and obtaining another frying pan at the same time, sometime this summer.

Anyway, as soon as I free up the saucepan again, I'm going to cook basmati rice in it, and make something for lunch this week. And then I get to do the dishes for the third time in two hours, and declare an end to the culinary endeavors for today.

Tomorrow I have to get Massachusetts tax forms, and figure out where online I can get ahold of Ohio tax forms. Now that I think back on it, a LOT has happened since last January. Fortunately, most of it has been good. I think I'd like to keep it that way.
