It just occurred to me that I spent a large chunk of this morning doing something I should have refused to do at all. The short of a long story is that I did a huge favor for somebody at MGH, and have now left myself open to be hit up for it again.

The long of it is, I scanned a fax of a copy of something in small print (first mistake), ran it through OCR (second mistake), saved it as a Word document and exported it into Excel (third mistake), and then spent a fairly huge amount of time cleaning up the formatting and OCR issues. To be fair, the OCR probably wasn't that bad, but the poor quality and small print didn't help.

How, you ask, did I get the honor of doing this? Well, the person who asked me to do it was over here the other day having a meeting, and my boss introduced her to me, and since I was at my desk at the time, my scanner was right there, and it's sort of hard not to notice it. I probably should have stopped when I had the data in Excel, sent it back and said "have fun storming the castle!" or some such. But, being the pushover I am, I didn't.

See, the thing is, I know better than to do that sort of thing. But I did it anyway, and now I'm annoyed at myself for it. I'm already annoyed at the biological side of myself, too.

TMI; you've been warned )
