Today there's a memorial service for the Harvard Med student who fell off his roof and died a couple of weeks ago. In consequence of which, there's a quartet standing in our office practicing a hymn, because it was the only space they could find, and we couldn't really refuse a request like that. I'm getting a little sick of the same hymn over and over, though.

I seem to be a bottomless pit. I had a fairly large lunch, and my stomach looked around afterward and said "That was nice, now what's for lunch?" Sigh.

The promotions staff meeting this morning made me tired. I went in with five committees scheduled between now and September, and nine in the works. I came out with eleven in the works and a list for October. I knew, last February when all these committee invitations went out, that I was going to be busy eventually, but I didn't realize exactly how busy.

I did finally figure out how to get my scanner software to produce Word documents with graphics in them, without trying to run the graphics through OCR or treating the text as an image. Now all I have to do is figure out how to convince the end result to get copied and pasted without reverting to Times New Roman, and to let me put page breaks where I want them. (Actually, I think I know how; I just have to scan all the letters at once and make one really long document out of them. It works for the originating documents.)

This seems to be one of those Fridays that seems determined to make me work right up to 4:59:30. I wouldn't mind so much if what it was making me do was actually getting me anywhere.
