Now, THAT was a weekend!

It started on Friday night, for once, due to [livejournal.com profile] scirocco calling me and proceeding to drive me off to Newton to a housewarming party for people I hadn't seen in years. Fun and beer ensued, and I got home at 1 AM.

Then I hauled my carcass out of bed again at 7:00, which wasn't quite what I'd had in mind, but my brain decided it was up. It all worked out for the best, though, because it meant I had enough time for a shower and breakfast and email and all like that there before [livejournal.com profile] whuffle and [livejournal.com profile] halleyscomet showed up and drove me off to Wilmington, where they spent the afternoon cleaning rabbit cages and I spent the afternoon getting absolutely covered in fur due to petting various rabbits and/or holding onto them while they got their nails cut. As near as I can figure, I went through holding about 30 lb of rabbits: Buckwheat, Shookie, Eric, Charleston, Bogart, Cheyenne, Desmond, Oreo, Velveteen, and I think there were a couple of others I've forgotten. Anyway, I got a serious fuzz fix.

Following that, we took a side trip up to the animal cemetery in Methuen, and came back into town again by way of Blue Ribbon in Newton. Ensued beer and ribs and brisket and collards and mashed potatoes and key lime pie. (We were hungry, none of us having eaten anything since breakfast and it being almost dinnertime by then.)

Yesterday I was a slug. I had wanted to go in search of some semi-dress shoes, and maybe another pair of jeans, but the weather was looking ugly and my back was complaining, so I didn't. I stayed in and wrote and got mildly obsessed with a song. On the way to Blue Ribbon, we had WERS on, and the a capella program played "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen. I'd had the tune of the chorus from that song stuck in my head intermittently for months, but there's absolutely no use looking up the lyrics for a song whose entire chorus consists of one word, especially when it's a word that gets spelled at least three ways in common usage. So I got ahold of the WERS playlist and found out who wrote the song and how they spelled the title, and went on from there. I like k.d. lang's version of it, but she left out two verses. Oh well. It's a very pretty song anyway, and I've been trying to learn it, which means I've been listening to it almost constantly.

So here it is, Monday, and I'm desperately trying to clear the decks of at least one of my "what do you mean it's not scheduled yet?" committees. Unfortunately it's looking like October is the month when everybody's going out of the country. So far I've had refusals on the basis of people being in Spain, Greece, Tuscany and Japan. (Tough lives they've got...)

Never mind. I think I'll go wander off someplace for an hour, since I haven't yet today.
