The SOP meeting last night was one of those in which almost anything that could go wrong did. We had to replace three of the votesheets and the agenda at 3:45 when the meeting started at 4:00. One of the committee chairs got stuck in surgery and we had to call a committee member, on the fly, to come in his place. One of the SOP reviewers was in another meeting at the library, and I had to go fetch him and bring him to the SOP meeting. One of the SOP reviewers' reports was actually the wrong version, because in the mad scramble to get everything here and read and put together in the right order, I missed the fact that there was another version. The Provost, whose presence is apparently Very Important although not vital, decided at 3:30 that he wasn't going to be there after all.

I finally left work at 6:15. If everything had gone as it should have, I would've been out by 5:30 and would have gone to Diesel to write. I haven't written anything since November, and I left off in the middle of a good idea, and I'm afraid I'll forget where it was going if I don't work on it some more.

This morning I left home half an hour early because I had to go pick something up at the post office. (They thought it wouldn't fit through the mail slot; I think it would've if they had bothered to try.) Anyway, the post office must be a government operation, because they had exactly one person behind the counter and five people in line. OK, so it was 8:00 in the morning, but still, when in Christmas season is it a good idea to have one person behind the post office counter, particularly in the main Roxbury post office? At least I got to work on time, even though I had wanted to get there early and have time for breakfast, which I never did get.

Today we have the OFA administrative staff meeting, and tomorrow we have the database meeting we haven't had in three weeks, and Friday I hope we have the promotions staff meeting.

I'm running on fumes, and the fumes are running out. I'm going to spend as much of next week as possible doing as little as possible.
