a very short synopsis

The Deschenes Rule of Packing wins again, because my parents gave me a new set of pots and pans for Christmas, so I had to come back on the train with it. So I had my shoulder bag, my duffel bag, and the Big Mahonkin Box with the pans (and other random loot) in it.
High points of the rest of the trip included an excellent standing rib roast, a very silly joke I can't reproduce here because it has to be told, not read, discussion and observations on the habits of the candles burning on the dining room table, relatively painless post-holiday shopping yesterday, a couple of football games that ended the way they were supposed to, a football player by the name of Ontario Sneed (I am not making that up; he plays for Central Michigan), and decent weather.
In somewhat less cheerful news, I seem to have caught a cold, or at the very least a sore throat that's trying to encroach on my ears.
