Due to the fact that professorial promotions are such a pain in the neck for all concerned, we've decided to send the committee chairs something by way of a gift at the end of the process. Therefore, there are two different kinds of chocolates out on the counter and we've been asked for taste tests. I suppose this falls under "other duties as required" in my job description. (One kind of truffle is definitely better than the other; unfortunately the good one comes in worse packaging than the mediocre one and therefore looks less professional.)

In other food-related news, I finally made carrot muffins last night. They came out quite well; I think I'll be having them for breakfast for a while since they freeze quite well too. It's a slightly strange recipe because it's leavened by the reaction between baking soda and vinegar, but it works. Better living through chemistry, indeed.

Yesterday when I left work, there were four news helicopters and a blimp tying up the airspace over Kenmore and the medical area, simply because the Red Sox had come back to town yesterday. I'm largely indifferent to baseball, but media oversaturation is making me loathe it. And all sports seasons are too long. And that's all I'm going to say about that.

I have most of the soundtrack from My Fair Lady stuck in my head. I wish it would go away, because it's been intermittently stuck for about a week now. It pops up every time I'm not concentrating on something else. I wish Rex Harrison had been a better singer.
