This morning I walked up to the bus stop and waited all of fifteen seconds for the bus. I have no idea how that happened. I'm not particularly looking forward to the average-20-minute wait for the bus home.

What do you call it when you can't remember a tune whenever you try, but it springs full-grown out of thin air and lodges in your brain occasionally when you aren't thinking about it? That happens to me with one of the two main themes from the movie version of The Man Who Would Be King. Every time I try to remember how it goes, I can only remember the other main theme, but I occasionally start humming the unrememberable one when I haven't been thinking about it. When that happens, and only when that happens, I always know how it goes. Then I forget it again and drive myself crazy trying to remember.

The Silly Beast was being sillier than usual last night. Probably because I scared the living daylights out of her; the first thing I did on getting home was drop my keys on the floor (even I thought that was loud). She hid and wouldn't come out until I talked at her for a while, and then she proceeded to act slightly off for the rest of the night. All seems to have been forgiven when I provided breakfast this morning, though.

I don't know what it is about this winter, but as it relates to promotion committees, it's slowing things down quite some. People promise to write letters and then don't, or they fall off the face of the earth when you try to schedule meetings, or they take an important document and sit on it for a couple of weeks instead of revising it. All of which makes my job somewhat harder than it needs to be.

Things I really shouldn't forget:

- Renew passport
- Call Rayburn re trombone
- Pay bills
- Laundry
- Buy milk
- Camera battery charger
- Breakfast for next week

Something else belongs on that list, but I've forgotten it (again).
