Thoughts on NEFFA:

The fact that they had a room set aside for vocal jam sessions was highly cool. The fact that there was never anyone in it was highly sad. I wanted to sing with people outside of scheduled sessions, and there weren't any people to sing with. Perhaps next year I should go with some other people who could be convinced to sing with me.

I now know a lot more about bagpipes than I did when I woke up this morning. I didn't know that uillean pipes are powered by bellows as opposed to being blown into. I also found out that I like the sound of Northumbrian smallpipes better than the sound of uillean pipes (it's deeper, by which I mean both lower and fuller). Yes, I am one of those odd people who likes bagpipe music (when played well, anyway). If I didn't have neighbors, I might consider learning to play some sort of bagpipes myself.

I miss singing with a chorus for the sake of singing. I quit the Revels chorus when it got political, and I haven't sung the Messiah with the Cambridge Community Chorus for the last couple of years because they rehearse in Cambridge. Which is as it should be, but when the mere thought of the travel back and forth from work to rehearsal to home makes me tired, I can't do it.

I have yet to have a harmony I'm singing with a recording make the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

I think I saw more men in skirts (not kilts) today than I've seen anywhere in several years. Not sure what the guy walking around in jeans and a skirt and crinoline at the same time was trying to accomplish, though.

How on earth would anyone who isn't stone sober ever get through singing "The Barley Mow" without tripping over it at least once?
