On Monday night, before Snip figured out how to break out of the office, Lily came into my room at bedtime like she usually does, but she was pretty tense. She was doing the older-sibling "does this mean you don't love me any more?" thing. When she was sure I was still going to dispense head scritches and let her sleep on the bed, she pretty much relaxed all over.

When I got home yesterday, Lily and Snip were in the middle of sorting out who exactly is in charge. So far Lily seems to be laying down the boundaries, and keeps looking at me after she does it, to make sure she hasn't crossed any of my own boundaries. If Lily meows, Snip takes off for parts elsewhere, but mostly Lily communicates boundaries by glaring. Snip doesn't seem to have any boundaries, although she does let me call her off Lily's food and go eat her own. (This is good, because as soon as I can get ahold of some hypoallergenic cat food, I'm going to start Snip on that, to see if it helps with the allergic reaction.)

This morning I woke up with Snip at about rib level and Lily at the foot of the bed, both asleep. Which is a good sign, as far as I'm concerned. As far as I know, because I kept waking up between 3:30 and 4:30, there wasn't any major trauma about both of them being on the bed, either.

I think (I hope) we might get to "armed truce" by the end of the week.
