in which this week is weird
Nov. 9th, 2009 01:15 pmI can't decide whether having Wednesday off this week is a great idea or not. It splits this week into two VERY short weeks, which is slightly annoying, but it also means I get a break from the usual run of insanity around here (which, as the Dean for Faculty Affairs has just stepped down, is more insane than usual) before I would be expecting one.
However, I feel a little better equipped to deal with insanity this week, because the weekend was almost exactly what I needed. I didn't do anything productive except walk to the grocery store yesterday. The two weeks before last weekend were so intense that I ran my personal batteries down quite a bit. I spent the weekend reading the book I bought on Friday (not bad, but I didn't need to own it, so I passed it on to a coworker this morning), and providing a lap for the Hairy Beasts to sit on when they felt like it, and embroidering, and watching bad movies, and generally being a sloth. I was such a sloth that I forgot about the haircut I was supposed to go get on Saturday, so now I'm getting it on Wednesday. (I suppose that's another one for the "Wednesday off is good" column. Coolidge Corner is just a little too far from work to get to, have my hair cut, and get back from in an hour without driving.)
Speaking of work-related insanity, two weeks ago I finally gave up and started using Firefox instead of IE6 at work. The only thing we have to use IE for is the payroll software, and our IT department won't support anything past IE6 because the payroll software works in it. The silly thing is that even though I've been using Firefox at home for five years (ye gods!), I can't remember when at work that Firefox has tabs. I keep minimizing Firefox and then looking around in the taskbar for whatever I had open in the second tab.
Just so I have it written down in two places, the book I want to look for is Lamb, by Christopher Moore.
