bits and pieces
Aug. 21st, 2010 10:40 pmI broke my caffeine fast this afternoon, and I'm curious whether or not it will keep me awake tonight. I sort of hope so, since I regard going to bed at 10:00 a waste of a perfectly good Saturday night. (And a waste of perfectly good vacation, at least this week, besides.)
I made a stupid accounting error last month (a 2 with a diagonal line through it is not an 8, even though it looks like one). It took me until tonight to get around to finding the error, but at least now I know why I didn't have as much money as I should have. Oh well, back to quinoa and chickpeas for a while. At least I like quinoa.
The Hairy Beasts have been furry little limpets since I got back from Noank on Wednesday night. I'm not sure why; I've left them alone for four days before, but this time they decided they were Horribly Neglected. So if I'm home, there's at least one Hairy Beast a maximum of six feet away from me at all times. It doesn't matter if the Hairy Beast in question is awake or not, apparently.
I just finished reading The Gangs of New York. I read it as fiction even though it technically isn't. (I'm sure the people he writes about actually existed; I'm just not sure they really did some of the things he says they did.) It is, however, interesting to see the 1928 version of 1863-1890ish.
I've decided to go get the second half of the hepatitis A vaccine, which I had to get the first half of in order to go to India. The first half was good for six months or so; the second half will give me lifetime immunity. I just have to remember to make the appointment, preferably on a day when I don't need my left arm for anything in particular. The hep A shot hurts about half again as much as a tetanus shot. But I'll never have to do it again.
