The world could very well have been ending on Saturday; there was a big bright thing in the sky, and the sky itself was a thoroughly unusual color. However, since the world didn't actually end, I went out and enjoyed it.

I hadn't really intended to be out as much as I was, but on Friday night the optical shop called and said I could come get my new glasses on Saturday. Well, OK, says I, and did that. Since I was out anyway, I went on a quest for frozen bread dough, because I still wasn't sure whether it was going to be decent bread-rising weather. Fortunately the Stop & Shop in Coolidge Corner had frozen bread dough, and it thawed out most of the way in the process of waiting for the T. So I got it home and set it up to rise, and finally finished a section of embroidery.

Following that I decided I had a case of the fidgets, and went for a walk by way of the Brighton library and the frozen custard shop that opened ages ago and I hadn't been to yet. When I got home, the bread was risen almost enough, so I made the filling for it (spinach, dried tomatoes, feta, pine nuts, garlic and black pepper) and then rolled out the dough and stuffed it. (I keep forgetting I don't own a rolling pin. Fortunately I do own a fairly large, adequately heavy and securely sealed bottle of fish sauce.) That worked shockingly well, and I let the whole works rise again and baked it for 25 minutes, and it came out exactly the way I wanted. I had the heels of the loaf for dinner and I'm having the middle for lunch this week. Weather and motivation permitting, I'm making my own bread dough next time.

The other thing that happened on Saturday was the Hairy Beasts' annual trip to the porch. Since nobody else was home, I opened my front door and let them run up and down the front stairs for a while, and then I opened the second-floor porch door too. Much sniffing and investigating and merfing around ensued, but in the end they decided they'd rather run up and down the stairs some more.

Sunday was a lot less ambitious. I discovered by accident that BU graduated on Sunday, and thus when I got home I decided I wasn't going anywhere else for the rest of the day. You can tell there's something collegiate going on when nobody seems to be able to drive in Packard's Corner. I spent most of the rest of the day embroidering and providing lap space for various cats.

Today the sky seems to be back to its usual color (sigh). And it's performance review season, which I generally loathe, but mine today consisted of "keep doing what you're doing, because you're doing it quite well." I think I can manage that. (It's nice to be having a performance review with somebody who actually knows what I do, instead of just going by what my job description says.)

Why do herons fly with their feet stuck out and their necks tucked in, and flamingos fly with both ends sticking out?
