Random thoughts thought in the last several days:

- The media wanted Katrina. Based on the media, the public was expecting Gloria. What we got, in the words of one of my relatives, was "a Noreaster we didn't have to shovel".

- I think I may have finally got the idea of how singing is supposed to work, and it's not as much work doing it right as it is doing it wrong.

- If I'm ever going to see The Help in a theater, I'll have to do it next week in the middle of the afternoon sometime. Doing it on a weekend hasn't worked yet.

- The new windows are wonderful at keeping the outdoor air outdoors. However, that means they're also wonderful at keeping the indoor air indoors, and I think the last oxygen molecule in the apartment died of suffocation around dinnertime yesterday. The best part of this morning was opening the windows again.

- I wish it were still possible to buy less than a pound of butter at a time, for less than a zillion dollars. If I want one stick of butter, I have to buy the other three that come with it, and then I use them because they're there. I'd rather just buy one and use it and be done with it.

- I had a headache from Friday night to Saturday afternoon. I'm blaming it on the weather, because it was pouring rain when I noticed I didn't have the headache any more. Advil was no help after Friday.

- Last week was complicated, given the translation test and the incipient storm. This week should be less complicated, but busier. Less complicated is good.

- If I had a serger, or had the use of one, hemming linen wouldn't be nearly as much of a pain in the neck as it is. The question is, is it worth taking a piece of linen to a tailor and paying to have it serged just so I don't have to hem it myself?
