Oct. 17th, 2011 01:30 pmI learned some things this weekend, mostly in the course of running around to almost no effect for most of Saturday. The only size of jeans Sears didn't have was the size I needed, and I forgot that going to an Apple store in the same week a new iPhone comes out is a monumentally bad idea. I didn't even want an iPhone. After that I came home and ordered new jeans online, and perfumed my entire apartment with bacon in the course of cooking blackeyed peas and kale (and bacon).
Yesterday was better, in that I spent most of it at the annual My, How You've Grown Festival. Name notwithstanding, it was a good thing. It was nice enough out for grilling things outdoors, and having kids run around outdoors, and there was way too much food (as usual), and pretty much everyone on that side of the family is still putting one foot in front of the other on a semi-regular basis. And I borrowed the third season of Foyle's War, which is good stuff. I'm not sure how I managed to watch seasons 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6 and miss 3, but it doesn't matter since I'm remedying that.
I'm not particularly looking forward to tomorrow, which is P&R day. Usually I just want to get it over with, but for some reason I'm dreading this one. Probably because the Hairy Beasts have been arranging for me to get less sleep than I'd like, and the one thing I'm always worried about is sleeping through my alarm and not getting the morning meeting set up in time. (If I could figure out how not to have to run out the door at 6:15 on the morning of P&R day, it would help. I am absolutely not a morning person.)
I bought an acorn squash a couple of weeks ago and haven't done anything with it yet. I really should, though, not least because I want to know if having taken the burner pans off the stove will make the oven any happier. There's no reason why it should, but I can't come up with any reason why my oven should misbehave the way it does, either.
