dchenes: (katana)
Last night I came home and spent an hour tracking down exactly which smoke detector had been chirping for two days. It turned out to be the CO detector in the basement, which I made to shut up (after replacing the batteries in the first and second floor front stairwell smoke detectors). Unfortunately I then had to get the stepladder out of the basement and put it back where I found it on the second-floor landing, and in the process of crashing around in the stairwell, I woke up the dog on the third floor. I almost went out for a drink at that point, because after two days of chirping CO detector, two hours of barking dog was Right Out. Fortunately she shut up after about half an hour. I spent the rest of the evening reading most of the archives of Two Lumps, and laughing myself sick at a couple of them. (It's the sound effects, partly. And Loki's Underoos.)

Since the CO detectors take three AA batteries apiece, and the smoke detectors take a 9V apiece, and the worst thing in the world is to have a chirping detector (or several) and nothing to shut it (or them) up with, I went out at lunchtime and dropped $30 on batteries. Anything else that starts chirping this week will be summarily dealt with. Unfortunately I was so busy remembering to buy batteries that I forgot to buy milk. That figures.
