Observations, various:

- I'm surprised at the level of Sam Vimes "not in MY city!" I felt over the last week. I never really think of myself as a Bostonian (I'm a New Englander), so why is it suddenly MY city?

- If your academic title is "[Large Pharmaceutical Company] Professor of Respiratory Disease", doesn't that imply a conflict of interest?

- Of all the things for Trader Joe's to be completely out of on Saturday, why spaghetti? I would have expected them to be out of something perishable, but they weren't. They were out of spaghetti. I guess they didn't get that delivery on Friday.

- The jacket I took to Ireland cost more than I really wanted to spend right then, but its windproofness has made up for its price. Yesterday when I went out, my ears got cold, but nothing else did.

- I was confused when I read a headline that said something like "Donation to Boston Children's Hospital" and the actual article said it was a donation to the Massachusetts General Hospital for Children. Why the Longwood area children's hospital has to rename itself every couple of years is beyond me. It's been calling itself Boston Children's Hospital for a year or so, but we still abbreviate it as CHB.

- Why does dish soap need to be sealed for my protection, especially if the cap-and-spout arrangement over the seal won't come off?
