(no subject)
Oct. 8th, 2013 02:08 pmIt ought to be later than Tuesday, but that's mostly because my brain has stopped working. I've spent my work week so far writing grant proposals on subjects I don't know much about, and finding that to be hard on the brain. (What brain?) It's not that I haven't written papers before that were mostly BS, but at least I had read the book first before I went and wrote BS about it. Today I'm writing about how to teach dental students to read X-rays. Yesterday I was writing about studying whether you can retain students in academia after graduation if you use them as peer mentors in a discussion-group-based classroom.
It is now a couple of hours later, the X-rays grant is submitted, and I want ice cream. (Special Today: No Ice Cream.)
I keep thinking I should break my caffeine habit again one of these days, but I know it will entail a 12-hour headache, and I don't want a 12-hour headache. There's never enough weekend to accommodate that. It might be easier if I could arrange for it to happen mostly while I'm asleep, but it never seems to work that way. Another one for the Minister of Convenience, I guess. Meanwhile I'll just keep chugging along with my caffeine habit. I'm not quite to the level of "cannot function without caffeine", but I have been known to go take a 10-minute walk to find coffee rather than waiting for my own coffee maker. (I should, however, remember that I now have a coffee maker I don't hate, and should use it.)
I finally busted out the cooking skills again on Sunday, for the first time since I started the weight loss saga. I made the mushroom bourguignon from the Smitten Kitchen cookbook, although it wasn't real bourguignon because I left out the onions (on purpose). Good stuff, and it seems I haven't completely forgotten how to cook over the course of a couple of months of boiling eggs and steaming broccoli. That's nice to know.
