dchenes: (katana)
No adventure this past weekend, unless you count discovering that the tomatoes I bought only looked like tomatoes and were in fact tomato-colored baseballs. So I made 20-minute tomato sauce, and put farro in it. The farro is an experiment; I figured that for less than $2, even if I don't like it, why wouldn't I try it once? (Never mind that I've already got two kinds of quinoa and three kinds of rice and couscous and barley in the pantry already.)

I suppose getting caught in the heavy wet snow on Saturday, while dressed for light to moderate rain, counts as an adventure. It certainly counts as the reason why I didn't get as much walking in as I'd planned for. I made up for some of it by shoveling the cement that fell out of the sky, though. And now I know I can shovel cement without hurting myself (although it took me longer than usual because I was actively trying not to hurt myself). Compared to shoveling cement, shoveling powder is practically fun as long as I keep it out of my coat pockets. The inside of my coat isn't water resistant.

Speaking of water, there's something ironic about reading The Grey Seas Under while lying in a hot bath. North Atlantic winter gales are about as far from a hot bath as you can get.

Apparently it's going to be snot-freezing weather again for the next two or three weeks. Fortunately each of those weeks contains a Wednesday, and last-pound-and-a-half be damned, I think at least one of those Wednesdays (if not this very one!) will have to involve a very large bowl of pho. Or hot and sour soup, or ramen, or Korean winter soup, or some such thing like that. Something that makes me not care quite so much that it's snot-freezing weather until further notice.
