Jul. 3rd, 2014 10:33 amYesterday I put on The Dress Part 1, partly because I wanted to wear it at least once before I outweighed it (trying not to, but harboring no illusions about that), and partly because it was the only clean, sleeveless and work-appropriate thing I could think of when getting dressed yesterday. As yesterday was also Wednesday, I decided to take myself out to dinner after work. I wanted to go to Bartley's, but they were closed. They seem to be closed almost every time I'm really craving a cheeseburger. I wish I had better timing.
Anyway, since Bartley's was out, I took myself to Alden & Harlow instead. I had a dish of shaved zucchini, mint pesto and radishes; pickled-corn pancakes garnished with popcorn and creme fraiche (only time I've ever eaten popcorn with a fork); and a NY strip steak that came with bone marrow, blood-orange jam and fennel and arugula salad. Apparently you were supposed to put it all in one bite, but I tried that and it was too much of everything all at once. My favorite combination was the steak and jam together, followed by the bone marrow and salad together. I also had a very dark IPA (21st Amendment Back in Black) which was a little more bitter than I wanted, but you never know if you don't try. I think the pancakes were probably my favorite thing, but that's partly because I haven't had corn pancakes in years and I really do like them; I just never remember to make them myself and Weight Watchers doesn't really approve of pancakes in the first place.
I got home before the theoretical thunderstorms, and then we never got the thunderstorms. Grump. It was pretty miserably humid and not hardly windy at all. Today and tonight we're in for more theoretical thunderstorms, and this time I hope we get them. At least a thunderstorm moves the humid air around some. And I love being indoors and watching it rain so hard I can't see the end of the street from the living room window. (It's kind of fun being outdoors in rain like that once in a while, too. More so if you intended to do it and aren't wearing a white shirt.)
When I left this morning, I left both ceiling fans on high speed and every cold pack I own wrapped in towels in the hallway. I hope the cats get some use out of them.
I myself could use a week or so of not wearing shoes at all. Every pair of shoes I own, except my sneakers, are giving me different blisters. I'm assuming I walk differently now that I don't weigh as much, because that's the only thing that changed between this summer and last summer. I could cope if there were bandaids that will stick in this weather. Plastic ones are no good to begin with, and fabric ones give up after a block and a half. I miss Coverlets.
