It seems fitting, somehow, that after the curriculum committee meeting, the cafeteria's unidentified vegetable of the day turned out to be parsnips. I don't hate parsnips, but I didn't want them and I really didn't want stealth parsnips (they were in a cold vegetable medley and had balsamic vinaigrette on them, so I couldn't quite tell what they were). Lunch at the meeting was soup and sandwiches, and by the time I could stop taking minutes and have a sandwich, they were gone. So I went to the cafeteria and had salad bar chicken and cold vegetable medley which turned out to be at least 2/3 parsnips. Virtuous of me, but not at all what I wanted. Much like the rest of today.

What I've been eating too much of for the last couple of days is small shell pasta dropped into a bowl on top of frozen basil cubes, and topped with a little garlic powder, butter and parmesan, and all mushed together. Absolutely hits the spot, whatever spot it is. Unfortunately the concoction isn't as good without the parmesan and adheres to itself pretty fiercely without the butter. I should go without one or the other, but the sum of all the parts is extremely satisfying.

Bibimbap would be good right now too.
