Feb. 22nd, 2018 12:20 pmEverybody knows that the reward for good work is more work. I guess that means I'm doing good work, because the last time I got a raise it came with becoming program coordinator for the MMSc in Dental Education program. Now it sounds like I might be becoming the dental school coordinator for the combined DMD/MD program we're trying to start with HMS. I came into this one sort of sideways, because I wound up designing the curriculum for it when I looked at the first draft and said "As a patient, no way. Nobody's working on my teeth until they've taken Diagnosis and Treatment Planning and Treatment of Active Disease." Following which I created a curriculum and then went back and forth with my boss about it, and she went to HMS with it on Tuesday and now I'm revising the curriculum again and going to the next HMS meeting. So I might as well be the HSDM program coordinator, since that's what I'm pretty much doing anyway (although it's a lot easier when it's a theoretical program with no actual students in it yet).
I want yesterday's weather back again. It was 70 and dry, which is the low-temp end of my favorite kind of weather. Granted it shouldn't happen in late February, and the fact that it did is probably climate change and climate change is bad, but it was absolutely lovely to stand outdoors at lunchtime and have my legs get hot because I was wearing black pants (and no coat!). I'm glad I remembered to open a couple of windows at home before I left yesterday morning, and I wish I hadn't had to close them again after dinner. But it is February, after all, so what am I complaining about? I guess I can just look forward to the time when we get two of those days in a row, months from now.
Research, which consists of Google, suggests I can get scuba certification for $350-500. What I don't know is if that's just the classes or if it includes the gear I have to buy. And I really hope I can buy a regular mask instead of having a prescription one made, because (a) expense and (b) I hate walking around with uncorrected vision, especially if I have to do anything complicated between taking the mask off and putting contacts back in. It's bad enough walking through the eye doctor's office uncorrected once a year, although my eyes are also dilated then and that only makes it worse. Further research is indicated, but it can wait until about May. Which is probably when we'll get two consecutive days like yesterday.
