Apr. 11th, 2019 10:45 amLast night I decided I couldn't be having with the establishment, and blew off chorus rehearsal. The establishment is the five people over 65 who have claimed the front row of the alto section. Nobody else can sit in the front row, because it's theirs, and they've been known to kick people out of it. Except when three of them are absent and the conductor has a small fit about the front row being empty. Because I'm short, people start looking at me to move up. I decided, last week, to hell with that. I don't like being in the front row. I'm at the end of the third row because that way I'm out of the blast radius and I only have to be in one other person's space. So anyway, last night I wasn't having with any of that, so I went home and scritched Lily behind the ears instead and didn't regret it at all.
Dive club tonight, with a talk about the wreck of the Chester A. Poling, off Gloucester. She was a tanker, in ballast (thank goodness) when she foundered and sank in 1977. I always learn something from these talks, so I'm looking forward to it. And besides, there will be beer. Maybe I should start having a beer before chorus; it might take the edge off the establishment.
This morning I decided that the bedroom rug has got to go. Snip has shredded it to the point where I'm sick of cleaning up bits of it from all over the rest of the place. I need a hallway runner or a couple of carpet squares or something to stuff under the end of the box spring, just so it doesn't scratch up the floor, but the existing rug has got to go. So does the rug in the office, which was a Building 19 special and is unraveling, but that's an 8 x 10 rug and it's not in the budget this month. (And besides, I have to move quite a lot more things to get the rug out of the office than I do to get the 5 x 7 rug out of the bedroom.) Maybe I really should start buying Powerball tickets once in a while.
