Jul. 6th, 2019 11:03 pmI haven't gotten Up To anything despite having three days (so far) to do it, partly because of the weather and partly because today was completely shot anyway. I stayed up until 2:00 this morning waiting for one of my less favorite cousins to come back from the Phish afterparty (her childhood best friend married their drummer), because Murphy's Law says she would have gotten me out of bed to let her in if I hadn't stayed up. Either she had a key, or the back door was open, so I hadn't needed to stay up, but I didn't know that. Today she and her kids went to the second show and they're not back yet, and it's 11:00, and I want to go to bed, but Murphy's Law. So I'm tired and grumpy and wrung out because it was absolutely ridiculously humid for most of the day.
At least I got a thunderstorm out of today (right at cat-feeding time; Murphy's Law struck again and put Snip off her dinner). It's still humid, but it's 10 or so degrees cooler, thank goodness.
Also, last week I finally went to H Mart and spent a lot of money on experimental Korean food. Winners so far:
- Radish kimchi
- Bibimbap kit (where has that been all my life?)
- Soy eggs (although I could make those myself for cheap; I just didn't know they existed)
- Vegetable pancakes
Not winners:
- Seaweed salad (nothing wrong with the flavor, but I hate the texture)
- Kimchi pancakes (the kimchi they used was too hot for me)
Not tried yet:
- Jar of kimchi (waiting for weather conducive to cooking rice)
- Pickled radish wraps (can't figure out what I want to wrap in them)
Sweet pickled vegetablesa are a way to eat too much sugar without really noticing, unfortunately. But I enjoyed them thoroughly.
Not quite awesome, but interesting: I ended up watching the New York fireworks on the 4th because I couldn't find the Boston ones on TV, and I didn't know they set some of the NY ones off from the Brooklyn Bridge. When they did the Stars and Stripes Forever, they had some fireworks that somehow looked like a flag unfurling from the bridge down into the river. That was pretty nifty.
