a collection of unrelated stuff

We opened a can of worms yesterday, and I really hope it isn't going to turn into a long, drawn-out, political battle. It shouldn't; what it really requires is for HMS Faculty Services and MGH to talk to each other and leave HMS Faculty Affairs (which is my department) out of it.
Anyway, today being a nice day, I left the kitchen door open this morning and remembered to take out the recycling, so I think I might have a kitchen again. Except for the lack-of-counter problem, at least, but that will only be solved by either moving or rearranging my entire living room and extending the kitchen into it. Not gonna happen, though, because cooking and carpet don't go together.
I think today calls for eating lunch outdoors, preferably in the quad on the grass somewhere, and also preferably barefoot. I might even do something radical tomorrow and wear a skirt if it's nice out again. (Shocking, I know.)
The copier is making worrisome noises, and I'm going to be using it a lot next week. Maybe I'd better mention that to somebody.
yeti: I recently got addicted to the Yeti Sports section of www.funny-games.biz. There's something very satisfying about flinging penguins around.
yarn: I can knit; my mother taught me how when I was in junior high. I think the current knitting craze is nifty, but I don't understand the yarn snobbery that seems to be going on. If it isn't silk, wool, alpaca, mohair, ribbon, or something odd-colored and furry enough to knit Muppets with, it's second-class. The thing is, if it's acrylic, you can put it in the washing machine.
yell: I only yell when something unpleasant surprises me. I swear when I'm angry, but I don't yell.
yogurt: I've always liked yogurt. When I was little, we had a yogurt-making machine, sort of like an ice cream machine in the "put stuff in it and turn it on and let it sit there" way. It made decent yogurt, too, and we used to put canned peaches and honey and cinnamon and vanilla in it and call it "yogurt and ingrediments".
yak shaving: Sometimes I feel like I shave yaks for a living, but then, who doesn't occasionally feel like that? I love the term, though.
yesterday: I think I live in the past a little more than is good for me sometimes.
Ypsilanti: Having grown up right next to Mystic, CT, and thinking there was nothing odd about that, it takes a really silly place name for me to realize it's silly. Ypsilanti is one of those place names.
yoga: Another popular thing I don't understand and have no particular desire to.
yellow: One of the three colors I won't wear if I have any choice at all about it (the others being orange and purple).
This is as far as I can get without resorting to a dictionary, and I don't have one at work, so 9 it is.
