Mar. 24th, 2003 11:00 amFriday night: got home, was still feeling like being silly, and opened my bedroom window. Now, this in itself isn't silly, but I've got three cats who were born in November, and they don't know from open windows. They started out on the floor inhaling enormous amounts of fresh air, and then they got up on the windowsill and plastered themselves against the screen and were just fascinated by the whole experience.
I, myself, personally, wasn't there for a lot of this experience, because when Hillary got home, she decided to walk to Coolidge Corner and have dinner, and I went along too. Since I was wearing the Tevas I haven't worn since last summer, I of course got blisters, but I also got to have duck for dinner at Pho Lemongrass, so I didn't mind. I love duck.
Anyway, we walked home after dinner and watched the series finale (boo, hiss) of Farscape. I've been a Farscape fan practically from Day 1, and they were supposed to get another season, but the SciFi Channel up and canceled it on them after they got done filming season 4. So, we're left with an enormous cliffhanger and a "To Be Continued", which of course it won't be.
Saturday: Didn't do a hell of a lot (because my feet hurt) except go to two grocery stores, one of which was the normal boring one, and the other of which was the Super 88 (Asian) grocery store next door to it.
The Super 88 is marvelous, providing you like to cook Asian food. Hillary had asked me to make some more of the stir-fry I had made on Monday, and put pork in it this time, so I went and bought stuff to do that. I also bought, and I swear I am not making this up, a package of snack food containing mixed roasted slivered almonds and dried whole fish, complete with eyeballs. The fish are about an inch long, so it's not like they're sardine-size or anything, but still...I do not like my snack food to have eyeballs, and I do not like my seafood to have corn syrup.
So why, you ask, did I buy this stuff? It has to do with a friendly Christmas present contest between my father and my uncle. They used to try to come up with the most unopenable present possible, but my father always won that one hands down, so then they got silly and started giving each other things they knew the other found revolting. Anchovies, canned octopus, a jar of mixed dried fruit and fishing lures, etc. When I found the mixed almonds and anchovies, I thought of the two of them instantly, and since I know both of them will be there when I go to my parents' for Easter, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity. I told my mother about this on the phone this week and thought I was going to have to hang up the phone and go to Connecticut to resuscitate her because she was laughing so hard.
Sunday: Did even less than I did on Saturday, for which there's no excuse at all. I was trying to get the Celtic embroidery done, which I almost did. I gave up at 11:15 last night when I discovered I had made a mistake that was going to require quite a bit of ripping out and redoing, but I should be able to finish the whole thing in something under three hours now.
I hope everybody had a good weekend.
