Today I am grumpy. I had an insufficiency of breakfast AND and an insufficiency of lunch, which I inhaled while setting up a committee meeting that started at 1:00. Then I got stuck babysitting phone lines for an hour, which meant I couldn't go get any more lunch, and now I can't go anywhere until the committee meeting is over, so I probably won't get a break at all today. Normally I don't mind that, except that today it means I can't get away from the "if you aren't doing anything else, help with the P&R packets!" panic that's been going on since Monday, and the "SOP is in two and a half weeks and you must confirm the agenda instantly!" panic that my boss suddenly acquired this morning. If it was a productive panic, that would be one thing, but it wasn't.

I am sorely tempted to go out somewhere for dinner, preferably somewhere involving a largish slab of dead steer, but I really shouldn't.

[silly]Anybody want to buy me a largish slab of dead steer tonight if I promise to stop being grumpy by 5:00?[/silly]

We're grilling dead steer tonight if you want to hop on a red line train. Wiley can even bring you back to the train, since he's got to go back out to Quincy.

I'd be happy to grill you up a large slab of steer tonight! Seriously. And you can blow off some steam by playing Super Mario Bros. I promised myself that I would get the last of the levelling stuff on the floor tonight, but I can do that AND make dead steer happen for dinner. It would be good to see you, and since I didn't have a plan yet otherwise this would give me a dinner that fits into my eating habit tune-up.

So hey, call me @ work and we'll sort out the details. Sound good?

Huh. Looks like Miss Silly has plenty of South Shore steerage options!

It does look like it. Assuming she wants to trek out to the hinterlands, of course!

Yeah well, we may live in the burbs, but at least the burbs have a beach to walk to at the end of dinner!

Heh, maybe we should save her the decision. I can pick her up at the train station on my way over to your place for dinner and then give her a lift back. And if Wiley does the grilling, this gives me time to get the floor levelling stuff laid.

And dead steer over flames.

We should combine forces - y'all come over to our place (or us to yours, I imagine), combine our deed steers and have a nice meal!

a bit of wisdom I learned in college

[intoning:]

We eat the flesh of the cow to gain its strength

just as we eat the flesh of the broccoli to gain its wisdom.

(This is really fun to chant in unison as orders of hamburgers arrive at a restaurant. Fortunately for the waitress, we tipped well.)
