lots and lots of not much
Mar. 30th, 2008 02:53 pmI'm taking my vacation week to do some of the things I never get around to, and some of the things I could get around to if I wanted, but keep puting off for having better things to do. For instance, I went bra shopping this morning. It was easy this time, because of the four bras I bought last time, there's only one I can wear for more than one day in a row. So I bought two more of that one, and one of the two is a very nice sort of periwinkle color, and that makes me happy. Non-boring underwear is good. (Side note: why is it that bras and shoes always wait until I've bought them and worn them for several hours before they start rubbing my skin off in inconvenient places? Why can't they be uncomfortable when I'm trying them on in the first place?)
Since I was in Coolidge Corner, I went up Harvard Street to get to the grocery store, and stopped in Kupel's. I was good; I only bought two bagels and an apple turnover. Then I went to the regular grocery store, and all notions of being good went right out the window. I'm ashamed to say I came home with more processed food than not. The silly thing is that I wasn't hungry for processed food; I came home and made rice and had deconstructed cucumber sushi for lunch. (I need more wasabi powder. I can't get the lid off the current installment and apparently it expired in 2005 anyway.)
I also need a rice cooker that cooks rice, as opposed to wasting rice by sticking a good quarter-inch layer of it to the bottom of the cooker and requiring me to soak it off. And I need to go to Porter Square, to go to China Fair. And I need to go back to Coolidge Corner, because I didn't bring the dry cleaning with me since I thought they were closed on Sundays.
And I need to buy a doormat, or a small carpet, or something to put in the pantry. Preferably a carpet, so Lily will have her very own carpet to destroy if she likes. Maybe then she'll stop trying to destroy the living room rug (but since she's a cat, I doubt it).
I know, my life is exciting. But the point of this week is to do at least some of the unexciting things that keep building up and bothering me. On that note, i'm off to sharpen knives.
[ETA:
whuffle and
halleyscomet, were the previous owners of your house using those knives to open paint cans or saw pipes or something? It took me ages to sharpen them properly!]
