How I spent my summer vacation
Aug. 4th, 2003 09:28 amFriday: got up at the usual time, got Hillary up due to her alarm clock being broken, went off to the bus station. Got on the bus at 9:00, got to Falmouth at 10:30. Had to deal with some major minor work-related stuff by cell phone (I changed my login password and forgot to tell anybody), got to the cottage at about 11:00, had some brunch and fell asleep until about 2:30. Woke up again and hung around reading for a while. My grandparents came over from next door for dinner and there was a very amusing discussion among my father, my grandfather the civil engineer, and my sister the PhD as to how exactly the fancy space-age corkscrew is supposed to fit back into its box. (It isn't; it's busted, and one of the levers won't move far enough.)
Saturday: My mom woke me up at 7:30 to ask if I wanted to go out for breakfast, which I did, so we did. Following which we all came home again and all sat around reading books. Somewhere late-afternoonish, Mom and I went down to the beach and went swimming. In the process, we found a horseshoe crab the size of a basketball lying on its back in the surf. I thought it was dead, but I touched it and it twitched, so I put it back upright in deeper water. My good deed for the weekend. The ocean was very nice, especially since it was so humid. Fortunately it rained in the morning, so we could barbecue dinner.
Sunday: Woke up at 6:00 due to my sister leaving for the airport in Providence and the driveway being right outside my bedroom window. One of my cousins and several of her nearest and dearest friends were coming down, but there wouldn't have been room for them, so my parents and I left at about 12:30 and I got dropped off at the bus station. I got into my apartment ten minutes before the sky opened up. Whee!
Today, I'm back at work, and I have to remember to pack to go to Detroit on Friday. I'm incredibly behind with the apartment packing, too, dammit.
I think this situation calls for coffee. I've been drinking decaf since overcaffeinated me is not a pretty sight lately and is about as counterproductive as it can possibly be.
