dchenesToday I sang solo in public for the first time in roughly 29 years. Last time I did, I was seven years old, had a broken arm, and was given a solo in the elementary school spring show for the "awwww" factor. (Little did they know I could actually carry a tune...)
Fast forward to last July, when I finally decided that joining a chorus was never going to fit into my unpredictable work schedule and started taking private voice lessons. Which involves periodic studio recitals, which I was not ready for in December, but which I got talked into this time.
It wasn't a disaster, but I know I've sung better than that in lessons. At least it was both audible and in tune. I have a pretty big voice when I can persuade myself to let it off the chain, and I have a problem with giving it too much air and then running out of air when I shouldn't. Being nervous didn't help that particular issue, either. But, all in all, I did pretty well for not having sung solo in public for 29 years or so.
