Pull out umbrella and yell CHARGE!, and go order lunch for another six meetings. That's been the story of this week, mostly. I've been scanning things so we can throw away the hard copies, and ordering lunch for student meetings (since the best way to get students to show up for meetings is to feed them). Next week, we get working on the curriculum development retreat and the visit from the Tokyo University faculty, both happening in September.

Theoretically someday somebody will find the office keys I'm supposed to have, and I'll be able to let myself in when I get here in the morning. That would be nice. I can get into the building, but I end up sitting in front of the office suite looking pathetic until somebody with keys gets here.

I seem to have managed to completely forget about the Coolidge Corner farmers market this year. I keep getting to Friday and thinking "Oh yeah, that was yesterday, wasn't it?" Oops. On the other hand, going after work is always a bit of a disappointment anyway, since all the good tomatoes tend to be gone by then. Another item for the Minister of Convenience to work on when we get around to appointing one, I guess.

Speaking of convenience, why is it that A Dance With Dragons isn't out in paperback yet? The hardcover came out two years ago and I can't read it in bed, because I don't want to fall asleep and break my nose when it falls on me. (It's a marketing decision, most likely. If an author doesn't write very fast or writes very long books, and the paperback of the last one comes out at the same time as the hardcover of the new one, you wait for ages. I was having that issue with Patrick Rothfuss too, but with him it got better.)

Time to start hiding Snip's favorite puffball at bedtime again. She's rediscovered the joys of killing it at 4:00 in the morning, and she can't kill it without celebrating at the top of her furry little lungs afterward. I bet the author of the Bunnicula books, who invented a self-help book called Finding Yourself By Screaming A Lot, had a cat like Snip.
