dchenesThere was a weekend, and it was good. Saturday, I had one functioning brain cell all day, but since I could afford to spend a day doing nothing much, that was all right.
Yesterday, I fixed the Chateaubriand paper, so it isn't stuck any more. It's got about another page and a half of middle I have to write before I stick an ending on it, and since it's not due until the 13th, I'm in good shape there. Last night I had a study group meeting for Theory of Translation, in which we get a take-home exam on Tuesday. Before the meeting I lent almost my entire stack of research material to a classmate who's writing almost the same Chateaubriand paper I am. (There's nothing wrong with that in this case; the point of the paper is research, not topic or grammar or any of that stuff, and I happen to have gotten to a lot of the research materials first.)
I also managed, yesterday, to overheat a cast iron frying pan without setting the smoke alarm off. This is, in fact, progress. I've set off the smoke alarm twice now. I must be getting better at this stuff. The lemon and garlic chicken I made last night came out pretty well, considering the fact that I was improvising like mad. I didn't want plain chicken, so I threw whatever came to hand in with it. I love my cast iron frying pans. Since I inherited them from my parents, they're so seasoned they're practically nonstick. I just have to remember that once they get hot, they stay that way.
I should get a bottle of white wine and try that recipe again, and deglaze the pan next time. That would have been quite tasty, providing I could avoid setting the kitchen on fire.
I think I'm getting a cold. It's probably the same cold three or four people at the French coffee hour had last week. I guess I should put orange juice on the shopping list. I've got that dry-and-vaguely-irritated feeling in the back of my sinuses. I don't have time to be sick, dammit.
