Come to find out I have also been nominated for the Federman award, which is HMS/HSDM only and comes with an engraved silver bowl. Since I have no use whatsoever for an engraved silver bowl, I'll probably wind up with one.

I get that there are faculty who want to show up and do their thing and go away again, and leave things like schedules to other people. But I don't get how they can decide that last year's calendar is good enough (never mind that last year's calendar was for the old curriculum), and what do you MEAN I can't give an exam a week after the last third year course is over, and things like that. Makes my brain hurt. But my brain hurts anyway because I really need a vacation. Two more weeks. And a meeting next week with the clueless faculty member of the moment, just so we can tell him to use this year's calendar.

I made the beef and cabbage stuff again and it came out different, of course. It's still fairly tasty, but whatever I did the first time was better. Maybe it just hit a craving button the first time.

Speaking of cravings, I want to go back to the Brighton Bodega and order the brussels sprouts again. But I need to go back with two or three other people so I can try some other things I can't eat all of all by myself. I want the smoked salmon carbonara, and the scallops, and the brussels sprouts, and all the other things I could have ordered except they didn't go with peanut butter milk stout.

Last night was the finale of The Alienist and I don't understand why they had to put the cat-killing scene in. We already know that Beecham is unhinged and likes to kill things; they didn't need to prove it live. And I had Snip asleep in my lap besides, so I was thoroughly squicked for the next hour and a half and stayed up too late getting over it.

And I wish they had killed off Joseph the way the book did, because that part of the book made an impression on me when I read it. The show basically swapped out a cat for Joseph and I wish they hadn't. Especially because he doesn't die, and then disappears entirely and is never referred to again.

The ODE Non-Dental Book Swap is a modest success so far, and nobody has complained about the books on top of my filing cabinets. So there. I should really go through my bookshelves thoroughly and weed out some more even if I don't bring them for the book swap. Maybe I'll add that to the vacation list. I know I have some "desert island" books, but I also have a lot of books I don't even read once a year. Generally if I can quote more than one sentence that isn't the first or last one, I keep the book, but I may have to change that.
