I wonder if this article I'm summarizing was originally written in Chinese (the author is Chinese), or if I'm just being dense, or if this is really as difficult as I think it is. I gave up on it around midnight last night when I hit this sentence:

"The very fact of wrongly regarding the untranslated source language (SL) formal features as target language (TL)'s corresponding or equivalent ones provides justification for imposing SL elements on TL to usurp the rightful place of TL's own forms."

Now I ask you, is there anybody reading this who, on encountering that sentence at midnight, wouldn't say "That's it, I'm going to bed"? The whole article is like that, and I've got another eight pages of it. I think after this, I'm going back to Jakobson. At least he's differently difficult. Some day I must learn to actually do reading journals through the whole semester like I'm supposed to.
